KPAFFL 2025 Season Preview

The 2025 KPAFFL season kicks off this Thursday on the heels of a wild 2024 season that saw some historical achievements that greatly effected the 2025 draft.  Team Kevin was able to pull off the win in 2024 over Team Sean with his stable of Lions players, led by a terrific season from Jahmyr Gibbs and company.  The 2025 squads have all been redrafted and all teams are once again vying for the prestigious KPAFFL championship, but before the season begins lets take a look at who aced the draft at certain positions and who left the draft with a lot to be desired position-wise.

Best QB Situation - Its All About the W

Its All About the W kicked off the quarterback run in the draft, taking Lamar Jackson in the beginning of round three just before Josh Allen was selected.  Lamar was the overall QB1 in 2024 and will look to repeat that feat in 2025 with one of the most well-rounded teams he has quarterbacked for in his career.  With weapons like Zay Flowers, Mark Andrews, Rashod Bateman and Derrick Henry, Jackson is set up for success this season and will look to try and best his 2024 numbers of over 4100 passing yards and 41 passing touchdowns to go along with his dynamic running ability.

Worst QB Situation - Chopkins

Chopkins held off until round 12 to take a quarterback, and ended up selecting unproven second-year starter Drake Maye with his pick.  Maye is one of those quarterbacks that will probably be a better real life quarterback than fantasy starters, but he has more weapons this year and a year of experience under his belt, so a top-15 finish isn't that outlandish to dream up.  He has a good rushing upside and a new coaching staff that should capitalize on his athleticism, but Chopkins may be hunting the waiver wire this season to stream quarterbacks if Maye doesn't put up lofty numbers early and often.

Best RB Situation - BluhmGoesTheDynamite

Nabbing Derrick Henry and Jonathan Taylor in the first and second rounds was an excellent strategy in a league where running backs are scooped up quite quickly.  BluhmGoesTheDynamite also grabbed Tony Pollard in round six to give them three solid RB options for their starting lineup, and they have potential future starters with Cam Skattebo and Ollie Gordon waiting in the wings.  Honorable mention goes to Team Sean, who took Saquon Barkley and Devon Achane in the first two rounds to pair with Chase Brown who was selected in the third round.  Both of these teams possess powerful stables of running backs that will create the foundation of their 2025 success.

Worst RB Situation - Football Fetish

There weren't many teams that struck out at the running back position so selecting a loser in this category was somewhat difficult, but having Chuba Hubbard as your lead RB isn't an ideal situation.  Hubbard finished last season at RB15 which will be a tough goal to replicate, and the complement of David Montgomery would look much better if Jahmyr Gibbs wasn't primed to get as much volume as possible this season.  Hubbard will most likely be losing touches to Rico Dowdle and possibly Trevor Etienne.  Rounding out the depth is a washed up Nick Chubb who averaged 3.3 yards per carry in his limited 2024 playing time, and Javonte Williams who has Miles Sanders and Jayden Blue breathing down his neck in the NFL's worst 2024 rushing offense.  Hubbard and Montgomery could both score plenty of touchdowns, so having them as the two starting running backs isn't the worst situation to find oneself in.

Best WR Situation - Football Fetish

This was another close race, but Football Fetish has four WR's that could be vying for top-15 spots in the fantasy rankings this year.  Both Malik Nabers and Drake London are easy top-10 receivers, finishing 2024 as the WR7 and WR5, respectively.  Tee Higgins missed five games in 2024 and still finished in the top-20 and could be primed for an even better finish in 2025.  The real sleeper on Football Fetish's squad is George Pickens, who should have his career revived in Dallas' pass-heavy offense playing opposite CeeDee Lamb.  Pickens should look more like the rookie version of himself with close to if not more than 1000 yards receiving and will most likely set a personal high for receiving touchdowns this season with Dak Prescott at the helm.  Football Fetish also has Jordan Addison waiting in the wings and rookie Jayden Higgins who could surprise a lot of people filling the Stefon Diggs role in the Houston offense.  Team Kevin and Pfunk both came in a close second with their WR rooms, only lacking the WR1 depth that Football Fetish has in 2025.

Worst WR Situation - Team Tyler

Most years, grabbing Tyreek Hill in the third round would be highly unlikely.  In 2025, he fell after a lackluster 2024 season and Team Tyler will be looking for a big rebound year from the speedster.  Team Tyler also has Travis Hunter as his WR2, who is a complete unknown despite landing a starting role in the Jaguars offense.  Team Tyler's depth is rounded off with Michael Pittman who should have a better year than 2024 with Daniel Jones throwing the ball instead of Anthony Richardson, and another rookie in Emeka Egbuka who has a first-round pedigree and will immediately start with Chris Godwin and Jalen McMillan both on the shelf.  Team Tyler boasts very little WR depth and highly questionable starting WR's and will need to pray Tyreek Hill can return to his dominant form.

Best TE Situation - Chopkins

The annual "whoever drafted Travis Kelce award" has official had the torch passed to the new king of tight ends, Brock Bowers.  Bowers thrived during his 2024 rookie season, finishing as the TE1 while catching passes from questionable starting quarterbacks in Vegas.  This year, he has Pete Carroll coaching his team and a better QB in Geno Smith that should only propel him to better numbers and more than five touchdowns in his sophomore campaign.  Manifest Destiny takes a close second place with Trey McBride and Coleston Loveland, both of whom could be top-10 options by seasons end.

Worst TE Situation - None

Every team has a starting caliber tight end on their roster, as the position has gotten much deeper over the past few years.  In fact, the position is so deep that three of last year's top-10 tight ends aren't even rostered to start the 2025 season.  This is definitely a good year to put a large parlay together for touchdowns on national tight ends day, as the position is deeper than it has been in many years.

Best Overall Team - Team Sean

A lot of things have to break the right way to finish in first in the KPAFFL, but Team Sean has all of the pieces that could make that potential a reality.  Patrick Mahomes is a solid if not spectacular starting fantasy QB, and we already mentioned his above average stable of running backs.  Team Sean has quality starting receivers in Davante Adams and DK Metcalf, and Jerry Jeudy should thrive as long as Joe Flacco maintains his starting position on the Browns offense.  Sam LaPorta has the potential to be a top-3 tight end in the potent Lions offense, and Team Sean has tons of WR depth on his bench with Jajuan Jennings, Rashid Shaheed, Hollywood Brown and Keenan Allen.  Stashing Joe Mixon could be a pointless exercise, but taking him in round ten mitigates any real risk in the selection.  Team Sean did land the kiss of death with an A+ draft grade from Yahoo, but his team is deep enough that it should overcome any injuries and be a playoff contender at the bare minimum come season's end.

Good luck to all 12 participants of the KPAFFL in the 2025 season, and may the odds be ever in your favor.
