Do Yahoo Predictions Have Credibility?
A study I have wanted to do for many years but never got around to was whether the preseason Yahoo rankings and predictions hold any credibility. Yahoo gives draft grades to every team, although they gave a shocking amount of D's to half the league with this year's draft. It seems as though their draft grades are based on whether a team made a lot of "value" picks according to Yahoo's own ADP, which isn't quite an exact science. I am recording Yahoo's draft grades this year in order to see if the rosters they graded the highest and lowest finish with the best and worst records in the league, so we know if future years if there is any validity to these grades. Here are the Yahoo draft grades from the 2024 KPAFFL Draft:
Team Tyler - A+
Wasted Talent - A+
BluhmGoesTheDynamite - A-
Team Sean - B+
Kevin - B-
Chopkins - C+
Brett's Nasty Bunch - D+
Football Fetish - D+
Holmes Crew - D+
It's all about the W - D+
Manifest Destiny - D
Pfunk - D-
It is also interesting that Yahoo provides draft day projected standings, based solely on each player's projected points and the total they will accrue throughout the season in comparison to each team's weekly opponent. I recorded these project standings last year and they were not even close to correct when the season ended, although 5 of the 6 teams projected to make the playoffs did eventually make it. Once again, I will record this year's projected standings and revisit them come season end to see just how accurate they were.
1. Wasted Talent 12-2
2. Team Tyler 11-3
3. BluhmGoesTheDynamite 10-4
4. Team Sean 9-5
5. Kevin 9-5
6. Chopkins 8-6
7. Holmes Crew 6-8
8. Football Fetish 5-9
9. Brett's Nasty Bunch 4-10
10. It's all about the W 4-10
11. Manifest Destiny 3-11
12. Pfunk 3-11
