Bridging the Gap into 2015

It has been almost two years, but the KPAFFL blog is back in business.  The stats and records can summarize the past two seasons, but here is a quick summary of 2013 and 2014:

  • After a tight race for the four playoff spots in 2013, BluhmGoesTheDynamite claimed the top seed with a 10-4 record, winning the tiebreaker over Manifest Destiny by an enormous 209 point difference.  pfunk and Team Tyler claimed the three and four seeds respectively, and both crushed their opponents in the first round by over 40 points.  In the championship, pfunk took down Team Tyler by a hefty 25 point margin, nullifying any potential down-to-the-wire excitement.  pfunk's squad was led by Jamaal Charles' NFL-leading 308 fantasy points, as well as Peyton Manning's comeback campaign featuring 55 TD passes and 5477 yards through the air.  The championship was pfunk's third in KPAFFL history, taking sole possession of the achievement.
  • Interesting season notes:
    • Manifest Destiny claimed the two seed while scoring only 1102.60 points during the regular season.  That was the 10th-lowest in the league, but the 1142.04 points against him were the least in the league.  The team's highest scoring player was Antonio Brown with 204.60 points, which ranked 19th overall of all NFL players.
    • kevin finished last in the league for a second consecutive season after winning the 2011 championship.  No other team in league history has had back-to-back last place finishes, and kevin now owns the league record with three last place finishes all time.
    • As chopkins and Brett's Nasty Bunch failed to make the playoffs, their two year streak came to an end.  No team in KPAFFL history has made three straight playoff appearances.
    • pfunk became the first back-to-back league champion in history, and the fifth to become league champion while scoring the most fantasy points during the season.  kevin is the all-time leader is scoring titles with three, while only winning one championship.
    • Since 2003, three league champions were quarterbacked by Peyton Manning, surpassing Tom Brady and Drew Brees by one.
    • pfunk's squad is the first in league history to feature two 300-point scorers.  There have been a few scoring adjustments in league history, but the only other player to surpass 300 points on a championship winning team was Drew Brees with 369 for kevin in 2011.

  • The 2014 season was another tight one, as the first three playoff seeds finished with 9-5 records.  Making his 3rd consecutive playoff appearance and eventual 3rd straight championship appearance, pfunk claimed the one seed with his league leading 1307.36 points. Team Tyler finished closely behind at the two seed, followed by It's all about the W and Wasted Talent.  pfunk eviscerated Wasted Talent in the first round by a score of 101.20-71.70, while Team Tyler demolished It's all about the W by 43 points.  In a rematch of the 2013 championship, Team Tyler came away victorious with a comfortable 120.08-77.96 victory, capturing his 2nd league title.  The team was bolstered by a late season pickup of CJ Anderson, who rushed for 618 yards and 8 TD's in the final six games of the season.  Team Tyler joined kevin and Brett's Nasty Bunch as the only two-time league champions, second to pfunk's three.
  • Interesting season notes:
    • Team Tyler was led by Russell Wilson, who finished 3rd in total fantasy points among QB's.  He was selected in the 12th round, becoming the latest drafted championship QB since Matt Cassel (FA acquisition) in 2008.
    • Despite winning two titles, Team Tyler has never led the league in overall points.  Of the original members, only pfunk, It's all about the W, and Team Tyler have never had scoring titles, yet account for 6 league championships in 11 years.
    • Holmes Crew failed to make the playoffs for a record setting 7th consecutive year.  His active streak is followed by Team Sean at 6 consecutive seasons.  Neither have won a championship.  Team Sean was plagued by a tremendous 1399.12 points against, far and away higher then anyone in league history.
    • pfunk appeared in a record setting 3rd consecutive championship, and has finished no lower then 5th place since 2010.  He has never had a last place finish, and boasts a .545 winning percentage all-time, second to only Manifest Destiny of qualifying members.
    • Colin's Cool Team returned to the KPAFFL after an 8 year hiatus.  He finished at 6-8, good for 9th place.  His fatal mistake was drafting Matt Ryan in the 2nd round, ahead of Le'Veon Bell, Antonio Brown, and Andrew Luck among others.  He replaced Boulter, a member since 2007.
    • Through the final six weeks of the season, both pfunk's and Team Tyler's leading scorers were both FA pickups (Odell Beckham Jr. and CJ Anderson).  I'm sure this has never been accomplished.
    • kevin finished with a record setting 3rd consecutive last place finish.  No other team has back-to-back last place finishes.
    • Wasted Talent earned a playoff birth for the first time since 2008, his championship-winning year.  Those are the only two seasons he has made the playoffs.
    • chopkins won his first ever Consolation championship, a feat that no one wants.
