Do Yahoo Predictions Have Credibility?

Image
A study I have wanted to do for many years but never got around to was whether the preseason Yahoo rankings and predictions hold any credibility.  Yahoo gives draft grades to every team, although they gave a shocking amount of D's to half the league with this year's draft.  It seems as though their draft grades are based on whether a team made a lot of "value" picks according to Yahoo's own ADP, which isn't quite an exact science.  I am recording Yahoo's draft grades this year in order to see if the rosters they graded the highest and lowest finish with the best and worst records in the league, so we know if future years if there is any validity to these grades.  Here are the Yahoo draft grades from the 2024 KPAFFL Draft: Team Tyler - A+ Wasted Talent - A+ BluhmGoesTheDynamite - A- Team Sean - B+ Kevin - B- Chopkins - C+ Brett's Nasty Bunch - D+ Football Fetish - D+ Holmes Crew - D+ It's all about the W - D+ Manifest Destiny - D Pfunk - D- It is a...

2023 Recap & Welcome to KPAFFL 2024

Image
First off, a big congratualations is due to Manifest Destiny for taking home their first every KPAFFL Championship in 2023 with a resounding defeat of Its All About the W in the championship game. Led by a lethal 1-2 punch of Christian McCaffrey and Breece Hall, Manifest Destiny steamrolled through the season to an 8-6 record and swept his way through the playoffs to take home the cup. Even as the fantasy trends have begun to lean further and further towards the need for elite wide receivers in today's landscape, Manifest Destiny was able to win his first championship with the likes of Devonta Smith, Chris Godwin, and Gabe Davis as his main receivers, an impressive feat. Congrats to the other squads who were able to make the playoffs in Its All About the W, Team Tyler, Brett's Nasty Bunch, pfunk, and Holmes Crew. Now, with the 2024 KPAFFL Draft in the books, we will take a look at who left the draft salivating over their rosters and who left a lot to be desired in their qu...

KPAFFL SEASON XXI With the beginning of a new and fresh KPAFFL season, it is time to take a look at who hit home runs and who missed out in the 21st KPAFFL draft held this summer.  Each team possesses their own strengths and weaknesses, but when broken down by position group we can take a closer look at who has hope at the coveted league title and who will be fighting to stay out of the basement. Best QB Situation - Team Sean Team Sean took the best QB in the league, Patrick Mahomes, with the fourth pick in the third round of this years draft.  Mahomes was actually the second QB taken after Jalen Hurts, but Mahomes continues to prove each year he is the fantasy QB king despite a lack-luster receiving corps and a potentially hobbled Travis Kelce to start the year. Worst QB Situation - Holmes Crew Holmes Crew took an interesting approach in waiting for a QB until the final round of this years draft.  Jared Goff isn't a bad consolation prize, as he finished as QB10 du...

The Conclusion of the 19th Season

Image
Congrats to KPAFFL Champion Chopkins and to all for another successful fantasy season.  It was a crazy season with six teams finishing atop the standings with a 9-5 record, and we had our first team in league history go winless (Team Tyler).  The league's 20th season promises to be even more chaotic with the elimination of the kicker and the addition of a second flex spot.  Below are league records and the 2021 fantasy MVP's.  Enjoy your toilet reading. MVP's by Position QB - Josh Allen - 402.58 Points - Drafted Round 3, Pick 35 by Chopkins RB - Jonathan Taylor - 353.1 Points - Drafted Round 1, Pick 12 by Brett's Nasty Bunch RB - Austin Ekeler - 308.8 Points - Drafted Round 1, Pick 7 by Football Fetish WR - Cooper Kupp - 367 Points - Drafted Round 5, Pick 49 by Pfunk WR - Deebo Samuel - 300.46 Points - Drafted Round 7, Pick 80 by BGTD TE - Mark Andrews - 247.6 Points - Drafted Round 5, Pick 58 by It's All About the W DST - Cowboys - 185 Points - Undrafted K - ...

With the conclusion of the 19th consecutive KPAFFL draft, never has the landscape of the twelve rosters looked so evenly matched heading into the start of the regular season.  There were no outlandish draft strategies or obscenely overreaching picks, save for the blunder of one particular team selecting IR-bound JK Dobbins with their third pick.  Although I put very little stock into Yahoo's grades of team drafts, eight of the twelve teams received a grade of B- or higher, a good indication of the wealth of knowledge all participants of the KPAFFL possess in their drafting craft.  A long overdue congrats is awarded to Football Fetish for their 2020 KPAFFL championship victory, the team's first in the league's nineteen year history.  Football Fetish showed the importance of roster depth in a twelve-team league, and how even a 6th-round pick (Stefon Diggs) can be the difference between missing the playoffs and taking home the crown.  With the 2021 NFL seaso...

2020 KPAFFL Draft Results

Image
The 2020 KPAFFL draft is in the books and as usual, there were ample surprises in the twelve team melee for supremecy. Patrick Mahomes was the first quarterback taken in the first round of the draft since 2014, and the highest drafted since Aaron Rodgers was taken second overall in 2012. A record breaking 16 running backs were taken in the first 24 picks, led by last year's RB1 Christian McCaffery as the first player off the board. Team Chopkins matched the KPAFFL record with seven WR's drafted in the 15-round event while Team Sean led the league with seven RB's taken, including last year's RB6, RB10, and RB11. The varying draft strategies were apparent as the draft unfolded, and it remains to be seen who's methodology will result in being crowned the 18th champion of the KPAFFL. With that being said, we can take an early look at who gained an edge at each position heading into the 2020 season.  Best QB Situation - Brett's Nasty Bunch  The Nasties snagged ...
